Bill To Upgrade Validity Of JAMB Result To 3-Yrs Scales Second Reading In House Of Reps

Applicants for admission into universities in the country will soon have cause to smile as a bill to amend the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Act yesterday passed second reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill seeks to extend the validity of JAMB result from its present one year to three academic years.
Sponsor of the bill, Rep Ibrahim Ebbo (PDP, Niger), said Nigerians, especially the poor, have been the highest in sitting for the yearly examinations, despite the rising cost of purchasing the forms.
The lawmaker cited the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) whose results have validity that extend into several years.
The bill was well received as members voted unanimously in support of the passage of the bill.
Deputy Speaker, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who presided over the sitting, then referred the bill to the Committee on Education for further legislative inputs.
