Fresh Hurdles For Wamakko As Bafarawa Insists On Being APC Leader In Sokoto

Bafarawa-WamakkoFormer Governor of Sokoto State and one time presidential candidate, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, Thursay debunked reports in a section of the media that he had concluded plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The reports attributed his decision to dump the party to Governor Aliyu Wamakko’s defection to the APC recently.
Bafarawa is the leader of the APC in the state and has a no-love lost relationship with the incumbent governor, who was once his deputy. With Wamakko’s defection to APC, it remains to be seen how control of the party’s structure in the state will be shared between both men.
In statement signed by his media aide, Malam Yusuf Dingyadi in Sokoto yesterday, Bafarawa described the report as false and intended mischief meant to create confusion among genuine party supporters in the state and across the country.
According to the statement, Bafarawa would continue to remain APC leader in Sokoto and does not see anything threatening his committed role for the development of his party, which he laboured along with others to build and nurture to this level.
“Bafarawa has no intention to leave the party he laboured to build from the scratch, despite political intimidation, mischief and persecution by the same people, who wanted to take over it through other means of destabilisation of party supremacy.
“There is no cause for alarm over such rumours of defection from the APC or giving it to somebody, because it was authored by desperate people among the political class in Sokoto State”, the statement read.
In a veiled reference to Gov. Wamakko, the statement advised those who lost favour with the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to understand the rule of the game and follow due process in joining a party like the APC.
It observed that majority of them were accidental politicians whose stock in trade was nothing but creating trouble, division and rancour so as to satisfy their desperate desire for survival through chaos.
The statement asserted that the entire supporters of APC in the state were solidly behind their leader, stressing that Bafarawa would not leave the party.
“Bafarawa will not join any party or seek any alternative platform apart from his APC. As a founding father and deputy chairman of the drafting committee of the party’s constitution, he is asking the party to respects its rule and regulation. Anybody who wants to join it should return back to his ward and not make any short cut. So, nobody can decide for our party in the state other than the people of Sokoto”, the statement added.
